How to Set Up and Sign In with a Passkey

A passkey lets you sign in to REPSLog with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device unlock (fingerprint or PIN) instead of waiting for a sign-in link by email. This article shows you how to add a passkey and how to use it the next time you sign in.

What Is a Passkey?

A passkey is a faster, safer way to sign in. There is no password to remember and nothing to type. When you sign in, your phone simply asks you to confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device unlock, and you are in.

Your passkey is stored securely on your device. On iPhone it syncs through iCloud Keychain, and on Android it syncs through Google Password Manager, so it can carry over to your other devices automatically.

Tip: A passkey does not replace your other sign-in options. You can always fall back to a magic-link email, or to Google or Apple sign-in, if you need to.

Before You Start

  • Passkeys work on iPhone (iOS 16 or newer) and Android (Android 9 or newer), as well as in the REPSLog web app.
  • If you signed up with Google or Apple and have only ever used that to sign in, you will not see the passkey prompts. Social sign-in is already one tap, so the passkey option is hidden for those accounts.

How to Add a Passkey

There are a few places to add a passkey. They all do the same thing, so pick whichever you see first.

From the dashboard prompt

After you sign in, you may see a card on your dashboard titled Sign in faster with a passkey.

  1. Tap Add passkey on the card.
  2. Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device unlock when your device prompts you.
  3. That is it. The card disappears once your passkey is saved.

If you would rather not add one now, tap the X in the corner of the card to dismiss it. We will not ask again.

From the Settings banner

At the top of the Settings screen you may see a compact banner that reads Sign in with Face ID next time.

  1. Tap the banner.
  2. Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device unlock.

From the Passkeys settings page

You can manage passkeys at any time:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Passkeys.
  3. Tap Add a passkey.
  4. Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device unlock.

The Passkeys page lists every passkey on your account, with the date each was added and last used. To remove one, tap the trash icon next to it and confirm. You can keep more than one passkey, for example one per device.

From the post-sign-in prompt

The first time you return after signing in with a magic link, you may see a prompt titled Use Face ID next time?. Tap Add passkey to set one up, or Maybe later to skip it.

How to Sign In with Your Passkey

Once you have added a passkey, signing in is quick:

  1. Open REPSLog and go to the sign-in screen.
  2. Enter your email and tap Continue.
  3. If your account has a passkey, your device shows its Face ID, Touch ID, or device-unlock prompt. Confirm, and you are signed in.

If the passkey screen appears with two options, Use passkey tries again with your passkey, and Email me a sign-in link instead sends you a magic link to sign in by email.

Troubleshooting

I do not see the option to add a passkey

The most common reason is that you signed up with Google or Apple. Those accounts already have a one-tap sign-in, so the passkey prompts and the Settings > Passkeys link are hidden. Keep using Continue with Google or Continue with Apple.

You also will not see the option if your device is too old. Passkeys need iOS 16 or newer or Android 9 or newer. On the Passkeys page, a device that cannot use passkeys shows a note saying so.

I am on a new phone and the passkey is not there

Passkeys sync through iCloud Keychain on iPhone and Google Password Manager on Android. Make sure your new device is signed in to the same Apple or Google account and that keychain or password-manager syncing is turned on. If the passkey still does not appear, sign in once with a magic-link email, then add a fresh passkey on the new device from Settings > Passkeys.

Face ID or Touch ID is not working

If your device cannot confirm your identity, or you cancel the prompt, you are not locked out. On the sign-in screen, choose Email me a sign-in link instead to get a magic link by email. You can also still sign in with Google or Apple if you set up your account that way.

I want to stop using a passkey

Open Settings > Passkeys, tap the trash icon next to the passkey you want to remove, and confirm. If it is your only passkey, you will sign in with a magic link (or Google/Apple) next time.
